Formula Band Saw Series
Solid Wood Processing โ SCM Group
Professional band saws for carpentries offering high precision and reliability across six models. Available in multiple sizes from compact to large capacity configurations.
The Formula Band Saw Series represents SCM's professional-grade solution for precision solid wood processing in carpentry and woodworking operations. Each model delivers vertical band saw functionality with cast iron saw wheels ranging from 440mm to 940mm diameter, enabling consistent blade tension and tracking across six distinct capacity configurations. The series accommodates variable production scales through modular design while maintaining the structural rigidity required for professional environments.
Key technical differentiation lies in the machine's scalable architecture: the smallest model (S 440P) features a 420 ร 578mm worktable with 18" cutting height, while the largest (S 940P) expands to 800 ร 1250mm working area with 22" cutting capacity and 910mm maximum cutting width. All models incorporate tilting worktables (0โ45ยฐ) for angled cuts, dual exhaust outlets (120โ140mm diameter) for effective dust collection, and blade lengths ranging from 3950mm to 6710mm. Motor options span from 2.2kW (3hp) at 400V three-phase through 7.5kW (10hp) configurations, with 220V single-phase and 60Hz variants available for North American installations.
The Formula Series serves medium carpentry workshops and small-to-medium production facilities processing solid wood components: curved cutting operations, detailed component manufacturing, and precision ripping where blade control and table stability are critical. Models S 440P through S 640P suit job-shop environments handling furniture parts and architectural millwork; larger S 740PโS 940P variants address higher-volume production runs, timber construction elements, and continuous-duty applications. Cast iron construction throughout the wheel assembly and robust motor selections provide the thermal stability and repeatability necessary for production schedules exceeding 40 operating hours weekly.

Applications
solid wood crafting
small workshopArtisan woodworking studios employ Formula band saws for precision curved work in box making, decorative turning blanks, and sculptural elements. The robust cast iron wheel construction ensures blade stability during detailed operations, while dual dust extraction (120mm outlets) maintains workshop air quality during extended hand-fed curved cutting sessions typical of low-volume, high-precision craft work.
timber construction
industrial workshopIndustrial timber fabricators and prefabrication facilities deploy larger Formula models (S 840PโS 940P) for continuous ripping and component cutting in roof truss and structural frame production. High-capacity 7.5kW motors, 910mm cutting widths, and 21โ22" heights process engineered lumber and solid stock at production rates exceeding 100 components daily, with efficient 140mm dual exhaust managing dust loads from sustained industrial operation.
custom millwork
medium workshopMedium carpentry shops use Formula band saws (S 640PโS 740P models) for curved profiling and precision ripping of hardwood components in architectural trim, moldings, and bespoke door frames. The 600โ710mm worktable width and up to 24" cutting height accommodate detailed architectural elements and solid wood panels without secondary setup, maintaining tolerances critical for site-fitted millwork production at 30โ50 component batches per week.
furniture production
small workshopFurniture makers leverage smaller models (S 440PโS 540P) for curved leg cutting, seat profile work, and component blanking in chair and table manufacturing. Single-phase 220V 60Hz motor availability suits small workshop electrical infrastructure, while the 18โ20" cutting heights and tilting worktable enable compound-angle cuts for contemporary upholstered and solid wood furniture designs.
