MP150 Moulder / Planer

Solid Wood Processing

The MP150 is a specialized moulder head that planes rough wood surfaces smooth and moulds patterns to create columns or interlocking beams. It uses the same log bed as the LT15 sawmill and can be used together or separately.

The MP150 is a dedicated moulder/planer head attachment designed for integrated solid wood processing on Wood-Mizer LT15 sawmill platforms. It performs downstream moulding and planing operations on squared timber without requiring log transfer, enabling single-pass workflow from rough sawing through finished profile milling.

The MP150 integrates directly with the LT15 sawmill bed system, allowing operators to transition from primary breakdown to secondary milling without repositioning material. This tight integration reduces material handling time, minimizes setup complexity, and maintains consistent dimensional accuracy throughout the processing sequence. The system preserves the LT15's log holding and feed mechanisms, leveraging existing infrastructure for stabilized workpiece control during planing and moulding operations.

This machine is ideally suited for medium-sized timber mills and specialty lumber producers running production volumes of 5,000–50,000 board feet monthly. It targets operations processing softwoods and hardwoods into architectural mouldings, trim stock, decking profiles, beam configurations, and custom millwork components. The MP150 is particularly effective for producers seeking to capture secondary processing margin without substantial capital investment in standalone moulder equipment or additional floor space.

Within the integrated sawmill moulder category, the MP150's embedded design offers operational efficiency advantages over standalone moulders by eliminating material staging, handling, and re-setup between primary and secondary operations. This configuration reduces labor per board foot and shortens lead times for customers requiring moulded profiles. It functions as a cost-effective bridge between basic sawmill operations and full-scale millwork facilities.

Applications

specialty lumber finishing

small workshop

Smaller specialty lumber producers and hardwood mills use the MP150 to add value-added finishing—planing rough-sawn stock smooth and adding decorative moulding—to premium logs. This workflow preserves material in-place, reduces handling damage on high-value hardwoods, and enables mills to offer finished lumber products rather than raw stock.

architectural trim production

medium workshop

Mills use the MP150 to produce custom architectural trim, crown moulding, and decorative profiles directly from squared logs processed on the LT15. After primary breakdown into timber blanks, logs are moulded to specification without unloading from the sawmill bed, reducing handling and enabling rapid profile changes for customer orders. Typical output includes specialty trim for residential and commercial construction projects.

timber column beam milling

medium workshop

Producers use the MP150 head to mill decorative and structural columns, beams, and interlocking timber components for timber frame construction and architectural applications. The integrated moulder allows operators to transform squared stock into finished geometries—such as chamfered edges, mortise profiles, or interlocking joinery patterns—within a single setup, significantly reducing labor and improving dimensional consistency.

custom millwork integration

medium workshop

Custom millwork shops integrate the MP150 to add moulding and planing capabilities to their LT15 sawmill operations, enabling on-demand production of specialty profiles for furniture, cabinetry, and bespoke joinery. This eliminates outsourcing of secondary milling and allows shops to control lead times, profile precision, and inventory of specialty stock.
