SAWTEQ S-500 plastics

Panel Processing โ€” Homag Group

Specialized panel dividing saw designed for precision cutting of plastic materials including PETG and other scratch-sensitive surfaces. Features reverse cutting technology and advanced CADmatic control for optimized plastic processing.

The SAWTEQ S-500 plastics is a precision panel saw engineered specifically for cutting scratch-sensitive plastic materials such as PETG, acrylic, and polycarbonate sheets. Unlike standard woodworking panel saws, this machine combines reverse cutting technology with SORB TECH vibration-dampening material to eliminate chipping, cracking, and surface marring on delicate plastic surfacesโ€”critical requirements for high-value thermoformed and cast plastic components.

Technically, the S-500 plastics delivers cutting lengths up to 5,600 mm with a saw blade projection of 170 mm, enabling both full-sheet processing and nested cut patterns. The machine achieves fence speeds of 90 m/min paired with infinitely variable saw carriage speeds from 0.1 to 130 m/min (150 m/min optional), allowing operators to dial in optimal feed rates for different plastic thicknesses and formulations. Power delivery via a 47 kW (50 Hz) or 54 kW (60 Hz) motor ensures consistent cut quality across production runs. The integrated CADmatic 5 control system and 24" full-HD multi-touch display enable direct CAD file integration, reducing setup time and minimizing manual measurement errors.

This machine is purpose-built for medium to industrial-scale plastics processors, sign manufacturers, and composite fabricators who require dimensionally accurate cuts with zero surface defects. Production volumes of 50+ nested panels per shift are achievable, making the S-500 plastics suitable for job shops handling repetitive orders and high-volume batch processing. The reverse cutting mechanism and variable speed control make it equally capable of handling both brittle cast plastics and flexible films without adjustment complexity.

Within its class, the S-500 plastics occupies a specialized niche: while general-purpose panel saws prioritize speed on commodity materials, this machine prioritizes surface integrity and material compatibility. Its vibration control and feed-rate precision compete directly with dedicated plastic-processing equipment from other European manufacturers, while maintaining the flexibility of a general panel saw for multi-material shops.

Applications

sign and display manufacturing

medium workshop

Precision cutting of promotional signage, point-of-sale displays, and backlit acrylic panels where surface finish directly impacts product appearance and customer acceptance. The 5,600 mm maximum cutting length accommodates full-size advertising panels and trade show graphics. Variable feed rates (0.1โ€“130 m/min) enable optimization for both clear and opaque sheet stocks without tool changes.

composite and laminate cutting

medium workshop

Cutting of composite sheets, sandwich panels, and laminated plastic structures used in automotive trim, appliance components, and furniture edging. The 170 mm blade projection and vibration dampening prevent delamination at ply boundaries, maintaining structural integrity and aesthetic quality on multi-layer materials that are prone to separation under conventional sawing.

plastics sheet processing

industrial workshop

High-volume nesting and cutting of PETG, acrylic, and polycarbonate sheets for aerospace components, medical device housings, and industrial enclosures. The reverse cutting technology prevents edge delamination and surface scratching on cast and extruded plastics, while CADmatic 5 integration enables automated nesting from supplier data sheets. Production of 100+ cut components per 8-hour shift with zero rework is typical for batch orders.

custom fabrication job shop

medium workshop

Small-to-medium batch custom cutting jobs requiring quick changeovers between material types and thicknesses. The intuitive 24" touchscreen and CADmatic 5 control minimize setup time between orders, while the reversible cutting and infinitely variable speed control eliminate the need for separate machines or blade swaps when switching between rigid plastics, flexible films, and hybrid materials.
