Startech CN Plus

Solid Wood Processing โ€” SCM Group

The Startech CN Plus is a CNC drilling and routing centre designed for small to medium woodworking workshops and larger companies producing customized solid wood products. It combines drilling, grooving, and routing capabilities in a single machine.

The Startech CN Plus is a multi-spindle CNC machining centre engineered for versatile solid wood processing in workshops and mid-sized production facilities. It combines drilling and routing operations in a single setup, eliminating the need for secondary machines and reducing material handling. The machine accommodates panel dimensions up to 3050ร—900mm with Z-axis depth capacity of 60mm, making it suitable for edge-banding, dowel insertion, pocket drilling, and profile routing on casework components and solid wood panels.

The machine's dual-axis spindle configuration delivers significant technical flexibility: 8 vertical spindles arranged in a 5X-3Y pattern enable rapid multi-point drilling and grooving operations at up to 40m/min traverse speed, while 6 horizontal spindles (2+2X-2Y arrangement) handle edge profiling and slot milling. The electrospindle operates at 18,000 rpm for fine routing and edge work, complemented by blade spindles rotating at 4,200-5,500 rpm for heavier stock removal. This spindle diversity allows single-cycle completion of complex operationsโ€”drilling shelf pin holes, routing hinge cups, and edge profilingโ€”without repositioning the workpiece.

The Startech CN Plus targets medium workshops producing 50-500 units monthly of customized solid wood products, including kitchen cabinetry, fitted furniture, and architectural millwork. It serves shops transitioning from manual/single-spindle machines to automated production, particularly those requiring high mix-low volume output with frequent job changeovers. The machine's 15.2-20.7 kVA power envelope supports consistent production without heavy electrical infrastructure investment, making it accessible to established facilities operating 2-3 shift patterns.

Within the mid-range CNC drilling-routing class, the Startech CN Plus balances spindle count (14 total) and working envelope against footprint and cost, positioning it between entry-level single-spindle machines and large industrial processing centres. Its multi-spindle vertical arrangement reduces cycle time on high-volume drilling operations common in casework, while horizontal spindles provide edge capabilities typically requiring separate dedicated machines.

Applications

window door production

medium workshop

Horizontal spindles with 5,500 rpm blade speed profile stile edges and cope-and-stick joinery, while vertical spindles drill lock mortises and hinge plate holes in frame components (max 3050ร—900mm). The machine completes door frame component sets for 15โ€“25 units per shift, reducing manual edge profiling and dowel-hole layout errors in mid-volume custom architectural orders.

cabinet making

medium workshop

The machine executes complete casework processing in single setups: 8 vertical spindles perform simultaneous shelf pin drilling and dowel-hole patterns across panel widths to 900mm, while 6 horizontal spindles route hinge cups, handle recesses, and edge profiles (125mm blade diameter). This eliminates manual template work and secondary edge-profiling machines, reducing cycle time from 8โ€“12 minutes per component to 3โ€“5 minutes on repeat runs of 100+ unit batches.

panel processing

small workshop

Multi-spindle vertical configuration processes edge-banded panels for dowel joinery and shelf support in rapid cycles: the 5X-3Y spindle array completes drilling patterns across panel width (900mm maximum) in under 2 minutes, making the machine suitable for job-shop environments producing 20โ€“50 panel sets weekly with varied hole layouts and pocket depths up to 60mm.

custom millwork

medium workshop

The electrospindle (18,000 rpm) paired with horizontal spindles handles small-profile edge mouldings and decorative routing on solid wood components up to 60mm thick, while vertical spindles manage pocket drilling for table base fasteners and shelf support systems. Maximum panel dimension of 3050mm accommodates single-pass machining of stile-and-rail frames and door components, reducing secondary operations on custom architectural orders.
