Morbidelli X50

CNC Machining Centers — SCM Group

Entry level CNC nesting machining centre with comprehensive routing and drilling capabilities. Designed to satisfy diverse woodworking industry requirements.

The Morbidelli X50 is an entry-level CNC nesting machining centre engineered for flexible production in small-to-medium woodworking operations. It combines a powerful 9.5 kW routing spindle operating at 24,000 rpm with independent vertical and horizontal drilling capabilities—12 vertical and 6 horizontal spindles respectively—enabling simultaneous multi-operation processing on panel-based materials. This dual-spindle architecture eliminates tool change delays for drilling-intensive workflows, significantly improving cycle times on complex nested parts.

The machine offers configurable working area dimensions spanning from 2556×1296 mm up to 4356×2216 mm, accommodating standard panel formats and enabling efficient material nesting for cost optimization. Vectorial speed options of 57 m/min (PRO-SPEED) or 47 m/min (PRO-SPACE) provide flexibility in balancing production velocity against precision requirements. The 12-position tool changer combined with 140 mm Z-axis panel passage depth supports a diverse tooling arsenal for routing, profiling, and edge processing tasks. An integrated 125 mm diameter blade with independent X-axis control adds ripping and crosscutting capability without interrupting the primary spindle workflow.

The X50 targets woodworking shops producing cabinet components, furniture parts, and architectural millwork at volumes between 100–500 pieces monthly. Its independent spindle design is particularly suited to operations where drilling and routing occur on the same part geometry—such as cabinet sides with pocket holes, edge banding channels, and dowel locations. The machine accommodates both solid wood and composite panels (MDF, plywood) within the 140 mm working depth, making it adaptable to mixed-material production environments without reconfiguration.

Within the entry-level CNC centre segment, the X50 differentiates through its integrated drilling spindle array rather than reliance on sequential tool changes. This architecture reduces non-cutting time and improves consistency in precision hole placement—critical for assembly-ready components in case goods manufacturing. The modular working area options allow shops to scale investment according to current production footprint while maintaining upgrade potential.

Applications

cabinet component production

medium workshop

The X50 processes cabinet sides, shelves, and frames with routed edge profiles and pocket hole drilling in a single setup. The 12 independent vertical spindles rapidly drill multiple hole patterns (European cup holes, shelf pins, assembly dowels) while the 9.5 kW routing spindle cuts edge profiles and internal grooves, reducing cycle time by 40–60% versus sequential drilling-then-routing workflows. Shops producing 200–400 cabinet units monthly benefit from the 12-position tool changer supporting various bit geometries for complex nested layouts on standard 2800×1300 mm panels.

panel nesting optimization

medium workshop

Furniture manufacturers utilize the X50's nesting capabilities to maximize yield from sheet goods (MDF, plywood) by processing multiple part geometries in a single run. The 57 m/min vectorial speed (PRO-SPEED mode) enables fast indexing between nested parts, while 6 horizontal spindles support edge banding slot routing and joinery cuts perpendicular to the panel face. This configuration is ideal for batch runs of 50–150 identical or semi-identical components requiring both face and edge operations.

custom architectural millwork

small workshop

Small millwork studios use the X50 to produce custom door frames, window casings, and decorative panels with integrated routing and drilling for hardware attachment. The configurable working areas (up to 4356×2216 mm) accommodate full-size door blanks and decorative panels, while the integrated 125 mm saw blade enables edge crosscutting and ripping without manual table saw handling. The 24,000 rpm spindle produces smooth, chip-free edges on solid wood and veneered materials, essential for visible architectural components.

solid wood component manufacturing

medium workshop

The machine processes solid wood furniture components—table legs, chair frames, drawer boxes—combining routing operations (profiling, mortising, decorative grooves) with precision drilling for dowel, screw, and hardware holes. The 140 mm Z-axis depth accommodates thicker stock (up to 140 mm panels), while the independent drilling spindle array ensures consistent hole placement across batch production. The 8,000 rpm drilling speed prevents tearout in hardwoods, critical for visible joinery in high-end furniture.
