oikos xs

CNC Machining Centers — SCM Group

The oikos xs is a new CNC machining centre characterized by high speed of execution and configurability. It was designed for the production of structural timber construction elements.

The oikos xs is a multi-function CNC machining centre purpose-built for structural timber construction elements, integrating sawing, routing, drilling, and mortising operations within a single production cell. This consolidation eliminates inter-machine material handling and reduces production cycle time for complex, dimensionally-demanding workpieces.

The machine accommodates workpieces up to 16 m in length with cross-sections ranging from 40 × 20 mm to 650 × 310 mm (depending on model configuration), supporting automatic loading of components up to 1500 kg. Operating units include a 10.6 kW sawblade unit for precision cross-cutting, a 12.8 kW Flex-5 routing unit for complex profiling, a 10 kW revolver unit for sequential tooling, vertical and horizontal drilling units (1.5 kW each), and a 2.2 kW horizontal mortise chain unit for joinery production. This multi-spindle architecture enables simultaneous or sequential processing of structural elements—beams, posts, joists, and engineered timber components—without repositioning.

The oikos xs targets medium to industrial-scale timber construction fabricators and prefabrication facilities producing CLT panels, glulam beams, engineered lumber assemblies, and mass-timber building components. Its configurability (available in 450 and 650 cross-section models) and variable length options (6 m, 10 m, 13.5 m, or 16 m) suit operations ranging from 5–50 employees in specialized timber workshops to larger 50+ employee prefabrication plants requiring consistent throughput and dimensional precision.

Within its classification, the oikos xs differentiates through integrated multi-axis functionality that traditionally required separate machines. The combination of high-speed routing, mortising, and drilling in a single work envelope—rather than sequential passes through dedicated equipment—delivers measurable time savings for jointed and multi-feature structural components typical of mass-timber construction.

Applications

window and door frame components

medium workshop

Window and door component manufacturers process solid wood jambs, mullions, and sash stock through coordinated sawing, routing, and drilling operations on a single machine. The 6–13.5 m length options and cross-section precision support frame component fabrication with integrated mortises and profile cuts, reducing secondary machine handling for assembled units.

timber construction prefabrication

industrial workshop

Industrial prefabrication plants producing mass-timber building components use the oikos xs to machine CLT panels, glulam beams, and engineered posts with integrated drilling, mortising, and edge profiling. The machine's 16 m length capacity and horizontal mortise chain unit (2.2 kW) enable production of structural elements with precision joinery in single-pass operations, reducing cycle time and material waste in high-volume fabrication workflows.

structural beam joinery

medium workshop

Medium-sized timber framers and prefab shops producing post-and-beam assemblies leverage the revolver unit (10 kW) and horizontal mortising chain to produce mortise-and-tenon or similar joinery on beams up to 650 × 310 mm cross-section. The integrated drilling and routing capabilities allow complex joinery with minimal repositioning, essential for hand-fit structural connections in timber construction.

engineered lumber customization

medium workshop

Custom timber mills and engineered lumber specialists use the machine to add complex features—notches, pocket holes, mortises, and profiled edges—to standard lumber stock (40 × 20 mm minimum cross-section). The flexible Flex-5 routing unit (12.8 kW) and automatic loading system streamline production of mixed batches with varied specifications, typical in contract millwork for residential and light commercial timber construction.
