Stefani S

Edge Banding — SCM Group

Single-sided automatic edge banding machine designed for medium and large-scale firms. Characterized by precise machining operations, reliability and efficiency.

The Stefani S is a single-sided automatic edge banding machine engineered to apply edge materials to panel components in medium and large-scale woodworking operations. It combines pneumatic-driven precision with multi-adhesive technology to deliver consistent edge application across diverse material specifications and production volumes.

The machine accommodates panel thicknesses from 10 to 60 mm (optionally 80 mm) and processes panels ranging from 135 to 3200 mm in length and 95 to 1200 mm in width, enabling flexible job scheduling across standard and custom panel formats. Operating speeds reach 25 m/min (30 m/min optional) with support for multiple edge material types: coil-fed edges up to 3 mm thick, pre-cut strips to 1 mm, solid wood edges up to 25 mm, plastic and aluminium profiles, and paper edges to 0.6 mm. The system utilizes four adhesive technologies—EVA, PUR, EVA+PUR, and AirFusion+—allowing operators to optimize bond performance for specific edge and substrate combinations.

The Stefani S targets mid-size to large furniture manufacturers, cabinet makers, and panel processors requiring consistent edge finishing with minimal operator intervention. It handles production runs from small batches to continuous throughput, managing both standardized components and custom specifications without major setup reconfiguration. The 6 MPa pneumatic system ensures reliable component actuation across clamping, trimming, and finishing operations.

Within its class, the Stefani S balances automation depth with operational flexibility, positioning itself between entry-level single-function machines and fully integrated multi-process lines. Its broad material compatibility and adhesive technology options reduce the need for machine changeovers, making it suited for operations processing particleboard, MDF, plywood, and solid wood substrates with varying edge specifications.

Applications

custom millwork

medium workshop

Custom millwork and bespoke joinery shops employ the Stefani S to edge-band solid wood panel assemblies and veneered substrates with complementary edge materials, supporting orders with tight tolerances and aesthetic requirements. The ability to apply solid wood edges up to 25 mm thick and support multiple adhesive chemistries (EVA for standard work, PUR for exterior applications, AirFusion+ for specialty substrates) enables high-quality finishing across diverse project specifications.

cabinet making

medium workshop

Fitted kitchens and built-in cabinetry producers use the Stefani S to edge-band pre-cut cabinet panels (typically 10–40 mm particleboard or MDF) with matching solid wood or melamine edges. The machine's ability to process panels up to 3200 mm length and apply edges up to 25 mm thick in solid wood supports both face frames and panel assembly workflows. Operating at 25 m/min with multiple adhesive options ensures consistent joint quality across batch runs of 50–500 panels per shift.

panel processing

industrial workshop

Timber merchants and panel distribution centers use the Stefani S as a finishing station for custom panel orders, converting raw particleboard or plywood blanks into finished components with applied edges. The machine's flexible panel dimension range (95–1200 mm width, 135–3200 mm length) and multi-material capability—from paper edges to solid wood—supports mixed-format orders without changeover delays, increasing throughput and reducing stock waste.

furniture production

industrial workshop

Large furniture manufacturers apply edge banding to component panels for case goods, wardrobes, and shelving systems. The Stefani S handles the standard workflow of coil-fed plastic or veneer edges (0.3–3 mm) on 16–18 mm MDF panels with throughput to support daily volumes of 1000+ components. Its optional 30 m/min speed and support for thin pre-cut decorative strips (0.4–1 mm) accommodate both speed-critical mass production and quality-sensitive aesthetic components.
