Morbidelli M220

CNC Machining Centers โ€” SCM Group

Advanced CNC machining centre with double drilling head that reduces drilling cycles by 70% compared to competing models. Designed for routing, drilling, and edgebanding operations on solid wood elements.

The Morbidelli M220 is a high-performance CNC machining centre engineered for multi-operation processing of solid wood components and panel-based materials. This machine consolidates routing, drilling, and edgebanding operations into a single integrated platform, eliminating secondary handling and reducing overall cycle times in production workflows.

The M220's architecture centres on a dual-spindle drilling system with up to 34 independent vertical spindles and 22 horizontal spindles operating at 8000 rpm, complemented by a 15 kW routing unit capable of 24000 rpm. This configuration enables simultaneous multi-point drilling across workpieces while maintaining precision tolerances. The machine offers three working area options (3110ร—1620, 3710ร—1620, or 5510ร—1620 mm) to accommodate varying component sizes, with vectorial speeds reaching 78 m/min in Pro-Speed mode and a 60-place tool changer for flexible operation. The Z-axis panel passage of 180 mm accommodates thicker stock and edge-banding applications.

The M220 is purpose-built for medium to large-scale production environments processing solid wood elements, including cabinet components, furniture frames, door panels, and architectural millwork. The machine excels in batch production scenarios where drilling pattern complexity and drilling cycle efficiency directly impact throughput. Its auxiliary 4.5 kW routing unit with integrated 0-90ยฐ blade functionality adds moulding and edge-profiling capability without requiring tool changes.

Within its class, the M220 distinguishes itself through the density and independence of its drilling head configuration, which reduces drilling cycles significantly compared to sequential single-spindle approaches. This makes it particularly suited to producers managing high component SKU variety with consistent drilling requirements, where capital investment in dedicated automation is justified by elimination of manual positioning.

Applications

furniture frame assembly prep

medium workshop

Pre-processing of wooden furniture frames (sofas, chairs, tables) where components require both routing operations for profile finishing and precision dowel/pocket drilling for joinery. The M220's dual spindle arrangement handles drilling hole patterns for multi-point joinery while the routing unit simultaneously profiles edges, consolidating two separate machine steps into one operation.

architectural millwork custom elements

medium workshop

Production of custom wooden architectural elementsโ€”wall panelling, curved mouldings, decorative framesโ€”requiring precision routing at 24000 rpm combined with strategic drilling for assembly hardware. The 60-place tool changer accommodates the variety of profiling bits and drill tooling typical in jobshop environments, while the auxiliary 4.5 kW routing unit enables simultaneous profile and face routing operations.

cabinet component production

industrial workshop

High-volume production of cabinet sides, shelves, and internal frames requiring multiple drilling patterns for shelf pins, dowels, and hardware mounting. The M220's 34 vertical and 22 horizontal spindles enable simultaneous multi-point drilling across all mounting faces in a single positioning, reducing setup time and cycle duration by 60-70% versus sequential single-spindle machining. Ideal for producers running 500+ component variations monthly.

solid wood door leaf manufacturing

industrial workshop

Processing solid wood door leaves (stile-and-rail or frame-and-panel constructions) requiring edge profiling via the 15 kW routing spindle and precision drilling for hinge boring, lock placement, and handle mounting. The 5510ร—1620 mm working area accommodates full-width door components up to 2.4m without splitting operations, while the 0-90ยฐ blade unit enables edge moulding in a single pass.
