EDGETEQ S-500 Optimat

Edge Banding โ€” Homag Group

Advanced edge banding machine with linear motor-controlled profile trimming and intuitive touch operation. Delivers optimal processing quality with controlled chip collection and reduced energy consumption.

The EDGETEQ S-500 Optimat is a single-sided edge banding machine designed for automatic application and finishing of edge materials onto panel workpieces in production and semi-production environments. It combines material feeding, adhesive application, edge pressing, and trimming in a single integrated process, with particular strength in profile rounding and surface finishing quality.

The machine's technical foundation centers on the FK30 profile trimming unit with linear motor control, which delivers precise edge rounding without the wear characteristics of conventional mechanical trimming. Variable feed speeds from 16โ€“20 m/min (expandable to 35 m/min) accommodate different material types and finish requirements, while the trimming system handles edge thicknesses from 0.3โ€“12 mm for strips and solid wood (up to 20 mm with extended configuration). The intelligent chip collection system integrates directly into the trimming process, reducing both maintenance intervals and energy consumption compared to standard vacuum-dependent systems.

Workpiece compatibility spans widths from 40โ€“60 mm and thicknesses from 8โ€“60 mm (up to 100 mm with extended configuration), making the S-500 Optimat suitable for standard panel products and specialty components. The woodCommander multi-touch interface provides operator-level configuration of feed speed, trimming depth, and adhesive application without requiring mechanical adjustment or tool changes between jobs.

This machine targets medium to industrial workshops processing between 50โ€“200 panel units daily with consistent material specifications. It excels in applications requiring superior edge qualityโ€”visible edges on furniture, architectural panels, and cabinet components where edge appearance directly affects product aesthetics. The reduced energy footprint and integrated chip management make it cost-efficient for shops running 8+ hour production days.

Applications

solid wood crafting

small workshop

Specialty woodworking shops creating visible-edge solid wood componentsโ€”shelving, cutting boards, decorative panelsโ€”use the S-500 Optimat to apply and flush-trim solid wood strips (up to 12 mm thickness) with precision profile rounding that matches hand-sanded finishes without additional post-processing. Extended configuration supports up to 20 mm edge stock for premium architectural applications.

panel processing

industrial workshop

Large-scale panel processors running 150+ edge-banded components per shift benefit from the S-500 Optimat's reduced maintenance (intelligent chip management) and energy efficiency, processing coil materials (0.3โ€“3 mm) at maximum 20โ€“35 m/min speeds. The linear motor trimming minimizes edge chipping on veneered and melamine-faced panels, reducing rework and scrap rates.

cabinet making

medium workshop

Custom and semi-custom cabinet shops process face frames, shelving, and side panels (40โ€“60 mm width, 12โ€“60 mm thickness) with decorative edge banding, relying on the integrated chip collection and controlled trimming to maintain edge quality across 100+ daily panel operations. The adjustable feed speed accommodates both soft and hardwood strips without operator intervention or setup changes.

furniture production

medium workshop

Furniture manufacturers edge band pre-cut panel sides and edges with veneer or edge-banding strips (0.3โ€“3 mm coils or up to 12 mm solid strips) at 16โ€“20 m/min, utilizing the FK30 linear motor trimming to achieve flush, visibly seamless edges on tabletops, cabinet sides, and drawer fronts. The woodCommander interface allows rapid changeover between different edge materials and thicknesses, supporting batch runs of 20โ€“50 identical components per setup.
