Windorflex 1

Window & Door Production — SCM Group

SCM machining cell designed for windows and doors manufacturing. Flexible production system for routing, drilling and edgebanding operations.

The Windorflex 1 is a dedicated machining cell engineered by SCM for high-volume windows and doors manufacturing, integrating routing, drilling, and edgebanding operations within a single production system. This integration eliminates intermediate material handling and enables manufacturers to process linear elements—frames, sashes, and door components—without operator intervention between operations.

The machine's core strength lies in its multi-axis precision and production flexibility. Three independent work-piece configurations accommodate lengths from 220 mm to 6000 mm, with maximum width capacity of 260 mm and thickness up to 160 mm, making it compatible with standard timber stock and engineered wood profiles used in fenestration. The X-Y-Z axes deliver cutting speeds of 100, 80, and 50 m/min respectively, enabling aggressive material removal while maintaining edge quality critical for weatherproof assembly. The 20 kW electrospindle motor and 48-position tool changer minimize tool changeover time and support complex multi-operation cycles on single parts.

Windorflex 1 targets medium to industrial-scale window and door manufacturers processing softwood, hardwood, and composite materials in production runs of 50+ units per specification. It is particularly suited for operations requiring consistent routing profiles (muntins, rebates, weatherstripping grooves), precision drilling for hardware assembly, and edge finishing—all common in PVC and aluminum-clad timber window production. The machine's throughput capacity and tool flexibility accommodate seasonal demand fluctuations common in the fenestration industry without requiring secondary outsource operations.

Within its class, the Windorflex 1 competes as a semi-automatic cell positioned between manual multi-spindle machines and fully integrated CNC production lines. Its fixed working envelope and integrated operation set distinguish it from modular component systems, while its tool capacity and axis speeds position it above entry-level single-spindle routers, making it a production-focused solution rather than a general-purpose machining center.

Applications

custom millwork batches

medium workshop

Custom door and window manufacturers producing 10-50 unit batches in varying lengths (220 mm to 3500 mm) leverage the flexible length configurations to minimize setup time between jobs. The integrated routing, drilling, and banding capabilities allow small runs of specialty profiles—curved frames, arched headers, hardware cutouts—to be completed in-house without outsourcing secondary operations.

composite fenestration finishing

industrial workshop

Aluminum-clad timber or fiberglass-reinforced composite window sections (thickness 35-160 mm) are routed for drainage channels, drip edges, and gasket grooves, then edge-sanded and finished in series. The machine accommodates the full width range of commercial composite profiles and handles multiple work configurations simultaneously, supporting continuous production workflows in high-volume fenestration plants.

door component machining

medium workshop

Manufacturers of stile-and-rail doors use the machine to process rails and stiles up to 4500 mm length, routing panel grooves and lock mortises, then drilling hardware holes (hinges, locks, handles) in programmed positions without repositioning the workpiece. The 100 m/min X-axis speed enables efficient throughput for door component batches of 30-200 units per week.

window frame production

industrial workshop

Windorflex 1 processes solid wood and composite window frame blanks up to 6000 mm length, performing profile routing (mortise and tenon grooves, rebates for glass seating), multi-point drilling for hardware inserts, and edge finishing in a single fixture cycle. Production runs of 100+ identical frames per shift benefit from the 48-position tool storage, reducing changeover downtime and maintaining strict dimensional tolerances required for hermetic assembly.
